Medical Biller/Receptionist
The medical biller/receptionist certificate prepares the student to answer telephones, route calls, greet visitors, respond to inquiries from the public, perform medical insurance billing and provide information about the healthcare facility. Job opportunities are in medical offices, hospitals, clinics, health-related facilities, urgent care centers, and surgical centers.
Medical Assisting
The medical assisting certificate objective is to prepare competent, entry level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. The program is designed to coordinate classroom and laboratory experience with practical experience in a healthcare facility such as the physician's office. Medical assistants are multi-skilled allied health professionals who perform a wide range of roles in physicians' offices, clinics and other healthcare settings. They are proficient in a multitude of clinical and administrative tasks and are widely viewed by doctors as vital members of the healthcare delivery team. Students are required to achieve a grade of 2.0 or better for all HIT and MA courses.
Practical Nursing
This program provides basic nursing theory and clinical practice in caring for adults, children and families to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in long-term care facilities, medical offices, hospitals, home health and other community settings. Students who satisfactorily complete the practical nursing program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN) as a step in obtaining licensure as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). Students who wish to pursue this option must successfully complete the Advanced Concepts in Practical Nursing course at the end of the first academic year along with the other first year courses within the associate degree of nursing program.
Recent news about Schoolcraft College
Schoolcraft College’s Early Action program relies on faculty members to file cases for students who need additional help at school, directing the students to tutoring, mentoring, or other support services.
The agreement takes effect in the upcoming Fall 2024 semester with 15 students taking advantage.
The partnership will provide an easy pathway for Schoolcraft College students to transfer to Oakland University and finish up their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
The mentorship program is intended to help students utilizing the Michigan Reconnect scholarship.
Beginning in the 2024-2025 season, Schoolcraft College has its first-ever men’s hockey team.
SC Be Well, which launched on November 1, is a pool of resources available to all Schoolcraft College students to help maintain better mental health.
A new Early Action program is now in place at Schoolcraft College, though the program did exist under a different name previously. The program helps students find resources to succeed academically.
Trinity Health employees now have the opportunity to receive full tuition assistance when attending one of eight healthcare programs at Schoolcraft College in an attempt to ease the shortage of healthcare workers in the region.
The Livonia Medical Center has officially opened on the campus of Schoolcraft College, near the recently opened Health Sciences Center, with many specialized practices in operation and more to come.
In an effort to better prepare students to meet the needs of local employers, Schoolcraft College worked with area businesses to create the Reality Ready initiative, which focuses on soft skills.
