The Career Mentorship and Placement Office provides students with assistance to meet their career goals and helps to prepare them for life after graduation.
Schoolcraft College’s new Career Mentorship and Placement Office, located within the Jeffress Center, helps students with all aspects and stages of finding the career that is right for them, with services ranging from resume building help to internship placement to interview prep.
According to an article on Schoolcraft College’s website, Sharon Christian, who serves as the Director of Workforce Mentorship and Placement, was quoted as saying of the new office, “We are beyond excited to continue tried-and-true career programming while launching exciting new ventures in the Career Mentorship and Placement office. Our office is strategically positioned to focus on our students meeting their personal economic goals and we look forward to making ongoing efforts to help students succeed.”
The Career Mentorship and Placement Office is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 5:00pm. It offers both walk-in services and services by appointment, and specific services may only be available at specific times. The office is staffed with a Career Success Navigator and with Career Success Mentors who can assist students with their needs.
Drop-in career support is a new initiative that will be overseen by Career Success Mentors who will be freshly trained each semester. The types of services students can receive without an appointment include interview preparation, crafting resumes and cover letters, and LinkedIn profile building.
The Career Mentorship and Placement Office also offers a job board that employers will have access to, giving students the ability to find job postings with ease. Additionally, the office will host job fairs, seminars, and networking events to give students access to up-to-date information about finding jobs and about various industries.
The office hosts the College2Career Professional Mentorship Program, which pairs students with a staff or faculty member at Schoolcraft College to receive mentorship. The mentors in the program span the college’s departments and include leadership, instructors, and other staff members, providing students with an inside look at careers they would like to pursue, as well as the focused mentorship of someone actively working in that career.
