Practical Nursing - Certificate
The Practical Nursing certificate program at Pierpont Community and Technical College aims to prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. The program is part-time and will take five semesters to complete. Among the classes included in the program are nutrition, pharmacology, mental health nursing, and pediatric nursing.
Veterinary Assistant - Certificate
This program prepares students to work in entry-level positions under veterinarians in an animal hospital or clinic to provide routine care and administrative work. Students will study topics such as medical terminology, veterinary technology, and animal care.
Veterinary Technology - Degree
The Veterinary Technology degree program at Pierpont is intended to prepare students to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam. Throughout the program courses, students will learn clinical and laboratory techniques, microbiology, and animal pharmacology. After successfully completing the course, students should feel prepared to work in entry-level veterinary technician positions.
Recent news about Pierpont Community and Technical College
The goal of the program is to train and retain qualified nurses to stay and work in West Virginia amid an ongoing nursing shortage.
The $15,000 gift comes from aerospace company Pratt & Whitney, continuing a string of similar donations the company has been making since 2021.
The grants will be used to support initiatives aimed at first-generation college student success and mental health and wellness.
Pierpont currently offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science Physical Therapist Assistant program. The articulation agreement that was recently put into place with Harrisburg University gives students a pathway toward the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program.
The PRIDE Academy is a resource for individuals with intellectual disabilities to gain postsecondary transition support and earn vocational certificates.
The One Walk, Two Degrees program is a partnership between Pierpont Community and Technical College, Barbour County, and Preston County Schools that will allow high school students to earn an associate degree simultaneously with their high school diploma.
After a long session of the board of governors at Pierpont Community and Technical College, the board decided to put off the selection of the school’s new president until their next meeting on April 12.
A new culinary academy facility has opened up at Pierpont Community and Technical College. The facility offers new kitchen and classroom spaces, as well as other training facilities.
Through a new agreement with Western Governors University, students and employees of Pierpont Community and Technical College can access up to $2,500 in scholarship funds over four semesters after transferring.
An event at the newly reopened Palatine Park in Fairmont hosted by Pierpont CTC featured a concert and scholarship giveaways. Administrators call the event a celebration of a return to normalcy.
