Pierpont Community and Technical College announces expanded partnership with Western Governors University

Through a new agreement with Western Governors University, students and employees of Pierpont Community and Technical College can access up to $2,500 in scholarship funds over four semesters after transferring.

An expanded partnership between Pierpont Community and Technical College (PCTC) and Western Governors University (WGU) will increase student and employee access to degrees in business, healthcare, information technology, and teaching. A news release from PCTC states that providing an online option for pursuing a bachelor or masters degree is important for residents and employers in the region.

PCTC President Dr. Anthony Hancock said of the agreement, "Relationships with universities such as WGU are key to students becoming self-sufficient. We welcome the opportunity to partner with WGU and the opportunities it provides our Pierpont graduates to further their education."

The news release emphasizes that online degree programs are particularly helpful to students in rural areas who may not have easy access to traditional college campuses. PCTC students and employees who transfer to WGU can apply for the WGU Community College Partnership Scholarship, which awards $2,500 to students over four terms, contingent on academic performance.

WGU offers degree programs and opportunities for certifications in workforce skills. WGU Regional Vice President Alison Bell said, "In the 21st century, the world is changing more rapidly than ever before and both Pierpont and WGU are committed to expanding access to education and providing solutions for students to reach their full potential. We are pleased to welcome Pierpont graduates and employees to WGU and deliver on the premise that knowledge is a powerful remedy during uncertain times."
