Pierpont Community and Technical College opens new culinary academy facility

A new culinary academy facility has opened up at Pierpont Community and Technical College. The facility offers new kitchen and classroom spaces, as well as other training facilities.

Pierpont Community and Technical College has opened a new culinary academy, and students are showing up.

The new facility at Pierpont opened on January 23 in White Hall at the Middletown Commons and will serve students as they learn how to be proficient in food and cooking. The facility will provide students with locker rooms, a classroom, two training kitchens, and several other training spaces.

In an article from WBOY, Allison McCue, who is an instructor and the program coordinator for Pastry and Baking Arts, was quoted as saying, “One of the obstacles of our previous location was not enough space for the equipment needed to train students. The new facility will provide our students with the opportunity to work with a wide range of modern equipment that will prepare them for a career in the food service industry.”

Pierpont aims to use this new addition to improve its Food Service Management Program and better provide students with degree specializations in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Dietetics Technology, and Pastry and Baking Arts.

Culinary instructor and executive chef Tony Anobile weighed in on the improvements the new facility will provide, saying, “Previously, we had only one small kitchen for our three concentrations. Now, we have kitchens specific to the culinary and baking concentrations that provide students an authentic, professional, ‘real-world’ training experience.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new culinary academy is planned for sometime in the next few weeks.
