The goal of the Dental Assistant program at Sinclair Community College is to train students to become effective chairside dental assistants. Students will learn to effectively communicate with patients, display professionalism in the workplace, and to perform the clinical and administrative duties of an entry-level dental assistant. Students should feel prepared to test for certification.
Students can choose between the one-year certificate or two-year associate degree option when studying in the Medical Assistant program. Among the courses included in the program are Medical Terminology, Medical Coding Concepts, and Nutrition for Health & Fitness. Though optional, students may test for certification at completion of the program.
In the Medical Coding & Billing Specialist certificate program, students will learn all the necessary skills to become qualified for entry-level medical biller and coder positions. Courses include Introduction to Healthcare Delivery, Drug Classification for Coding, and Fundamentals of Disease Process. After completing the program, there are two certification tests students are eligible to take.
Students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Sinclair Community College will participate in classroom work and clinical experiences to ensure experience working with all kinds of occupational therapy patients. Students will take classes like Pathophysiology, Functional Anatomy, and Therapeutic Use of Self. Certification exams will follow the program.
Students will be trained to become competent entry-level pharmacy technicians in the Pharmacy Technician program at Sinclair Community College. Students will be taught the concepts of basic pharmacology, distribution of medications, and maintaining patient records. After finishing the program, students may take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Examination.
The partnership includes the donation of two aircraft to the school as well as an internship program to help students receive hands-on industry experience.
The grant will support the establishment of the college’s Student Resilience Center, which will help students with basic needs and mental health support.
