Sinclair Community College joins Fortinet Academic Partner Program

Joining the partner program comes along with the opportunity for Cybersecurity students to earn three Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) certifications.

Sinclair Community College has joined the Fortinet Academic Partner Program, an initiative that seeks to “create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive cybersecurity workforce,” according to Fortinet’s website.

According to an article on Sinclair Community College’s website, Kyle Jones, professor and chair of Sinclair Community College's Computer Science & Information Technology Department, was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “Cybersecurity is a growing field with demand for skilled professionals far exceeding the supply. This partnership with Fortinet and Secure Cyber Defense will strengthen the efforts of Sinclair Community College to better prepare our students and meet the workforce needs of the cybersecurity industry.”

The Fortinet Academic Partner Program provides the participating colleges with the opportunity to offer workplace certifications for its students. The three professional certifications Sinclair Community College is now equipped to offer are Network Security, Public Cloud Security, and Security Operations.

The goal of the partner program is to ensure the upcoming workforce of cybersecurity professionals receives the best education possible and is able to meet current and future challenges.

Fortinet partners with Secure Cyber Defense, and Sinclair Community College is using funding through the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Regionally Aligned Priorities in Developing Skills to purchase equipment from Secure Cyber Defense to equip students with the technology needed to receive cybersecurity training.
