The partnership will give University of Charleston students the opportunity to engage in tools and guidance to become successful in business and innovation.
The University of Charleston has secured an academic partnership with Global Innovation Management Institute-International Association of Innovation Professionals (GIMI-IAOIP). This means the University is now an academic member of the association, which is an organization of innovation professionals all over the world. This is a unique opportunity for the University of Charleston, as it has now joined the ranks of only a handful of schools in the US that are also academic members of GIMI-IAOIP.
Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, GIMI-IAOIP was founded in 2009 and is an organization of leaders in business and innovation who aspire to be the world’s leaders in the profession of innovation and the certifying body for the same.
According to an article on The University of Charleston’s website, Travis Kahle, who serves as the Director of the UC Innovation Center, discussed what this academic partnership means the for the university and its future, saying, “I think that our partnership with GIMI-IAOIP will help differentiate us from other schools in the region. Most of our innovation staff members are already studying to become GIMI Certified Innovation Professionals, which is widely recognized as one of the world’s best innovation training programs. Our goal is for the University of Charleston to become the leading provider of innovation education in Appalachia, and our partnership with GIMI-IAOIP is an important step in reaching that goal.”
The overarching goal of the partnership will be to provide students with the resources and guidance they need to become innovation leaders. This includes updating curriculum and giving 100 students per year access to Think Tank webinars, courses, and books. Another perk will be that 100 students per year will be able to check out the career center, which will give them a three-day head start at job postings, a valuable resource when it comes to staying competitive in the job market.
