Dr. Dan Silber has been hired at the University of Charleston to serve as the new Executive Vice President, Provost, and Dean of Faculty.
After a search that spanned the country, the University of Charleston has found a new Executive Vice President, Provost, and Dean of Faculty in Dr. Dan Silber. His first day on the job at UC was on July 3.
Dr. Silber has spent the past decade and a half working in higher education in such roles as Senior Vice President and Provost at Piedmont University in Georgia, Vice President and Dean of the College at Culver-Stockton College in Missouri, and Associate Provost at Florida Southern College. Prior to working in those administrative positions, he worked in faculty positions at Florida Southern College and Kent State University.
In an article posted on the University of Charleston’s website, Dr. Silber was quoted on joining the school, saying, “I am very excited to be joining the University of Charleston and look forward to getting to know new colleagues, students, and the whole community. UC was an institution I’d heard many positive things about over the years because of its high-quality academic program, focus on professional education, and uncompromising dedication to student success. It is truly an honor to now have the opportunity to serve UC and to work with faculty and staff to help our students achieve their dreams.”
Preceding Dr. Silber was UC Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Kim Spiezio, who recently retired.
Dr. Silber earned his MA and Ph.D. degrees in philosophy from Vanderbilt University and his BAs in philosophy and history from George Washington University. He also graduated from Harvad’s Graduate School of Education’s Institute for Management and Leadership.
He has spent much of his career leading and managing various initiatives to serve students of all grade levels and backgrounds through in-person and online teaching environments, liberal arts and professional programs, as well as higher education settings like graduate and bachelor degree education.
