Southern State Community College partners with Ohio University

Southern State Community College and Ohio University have formed a partnership to help bring about more education opportunities for students in the state of Ohio. The partnership involves the formation of a streamlined pathway for students to transfer from Southern State Community College after earning an associate degree and moving on to Ohio University to earn a bachelor degree in certain programs.

According to a press release on Southern State Community College’s website, Dr. Erika Goodwin, who serves as the college’s vice president of academic and student affairs, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “Southern State is delighted to work with Ohio University to offer seamless pathways for students to earn an OHIO bachelor’s degree. Southern State is proud to offer affordable, accessible, and high-quality in-demand associate degrees and certificates. We greatly value our partnership with Ohio University and the wonderful opportunity it will provide to students.”

Streamlined transfer pathways have been established for certain academic programs that will allow students who have earned specific associate degrees from Southern State Community College to enter into certain bachelor degree programs at Ohio University. Among these bachelor degree programs are human services, journalism, and the university’s RN to BSN pathway.

Rob Callahan, who serves as the assistant vice president and executive director of the Online, Transfer, and Credit Services Center at Ohio University, was quoted as saying of the partnership, "We are thrilled to partner with Southern State Community College to create transparent, seamless pathways for students aspiring to complete their bachelor's degrees. This collaboration strengthens both institutions' commitment to supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals."

The pathways have been designed to offer students as seamless a transition as possible to make continuing their education journey simple and efficient.
