Northeast State Community College’s student scholarship fundraiser exceeds goal

The annual Because of You Campaign raises funds for scholarships to be given out via the Northeast State Foundation. This year’s fundraising goal was exceeded by more than $21,000.

Northeast State Community College is celebrating a successful year of the Because of You Campaign, an annual fundraiser the Northeast State Foundation hosts to raise money for student scholarships. This year’s goal was to raise $100,000, and the grand total for this year’s campaign came in well above at $121,085.

According to an article on Northeast State Community College’s website, Megan Davidson, who is the school’s director of Development, was quoted as saying of the campaign’s success, “On behalf of the Northeast State Foundation, I want to say thank you to the faculty, staff, students, and community that participated in this campaign. Without this support, many of our scholarships could not be funded.”

The annual Because of You Campaign consists of a series of events all focused on raising money for student scholarships to be administered through the Northeast State Foundation. Every year, the students, staff, and faculty form teams to compete to see who can raise the most money for the cause. This year’s competition featured 19 teams. Among the events in the Because of You Campaign competition were door decorating and a Northeast State’s Got Talent contest.

Overall, the highest earning team in this year’s competition was the Kingsport Academic Village – Workforce Solutions team, which raised a total of $23,221. The second place team was Team Bear Bucks, which raised $17,904. Third place went to The LEAD Center for raising $8,813. The Northeast State Scholars Foundation/Alumni and Bookstore team came in fourth place with $7,411. Rounding out the top five teams was Phi Theta Kappa with $3,295.

There were 54 doors decorated on campus, which earned awards like “Most Bootiful” for a spooky themed door, “Most Creative,” and “Best School Spirit.” The talent competition allowed contest viewers to pay to vote for their favorite performances. Student entrants sang, played instruments, and danced, and earned votes translated to earned money for the scholarship fund.

The Because of You Campaign ran from October 21 to November 6 this year, with the grand total of funds raised having been announced on campus at a celebration event on November 7. Josh Johnson, who is the assistant director of Alumni Engagement and Donor Relations, thanked everyone for their participation at the event. He said, “Your generosity knows no bounds, and I am proud of all the work you do.”
