Baker College to begin offering study abroad opportunities

Beginning in the Spring 2025 semester, Baker College students will be able to study abroad in more than 20 countries.

Baker College has announced that beginning with the Spring 2025 semester, its students will be able to experience life and culture overseas while continuing their education through its new study abroad program. The study abroad program is available to students thanks to a partnership with AIFS Abroad, which has been facilitating study abroad trips for more than 60 years.

According to an article on Baker College’s website, Na Li, Ph.D., who is the Director of Education Abroad & Global Programs and the dean of graduate programs in the College of Business, shared their thoughts about the experience and what they expect students will get out of studying abroad: “I love helping students to grow academically, professionally, and personally. It is exciting to guide them to find appropriate study abroad programs and encourage them to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves. The best part is watching them gain confidence and become more open-minded as they dive into new cultures.”

Among the areas of study students can pursue while abroad are law, engineering, health sciences, communications, computer science, and more. There are many benefits that come from studying in another country, including being able to become more proficient in a foreign language, learning cultural customs, and experiencing a new environment.

According to Baker College’s study abroad program page, in order for students to be qualified for a study abroad experience, the student must have completed at least one year of college, and depending on the program the student wishes to pursue and in which country, there may be other requirements, like GPA or language.

It may be possible for students to apply financial aid funding to their study abroad trip in order to make the experience more affordable for more students.

Li said, “What I look forward to is hearing from students when they return. Their stories of new learning experiences, new friendships, and personal growth will be the best rewards for me.”
