The changes and additions are the school’s attempt to continue providing student-first education and removing many of the barriers that keep students from pursuing education.
Baker College has simplified its tuition structure and implemented several new scholarships, all in the name of continuing to provide student-first education and accessibility in higher education.
According to an article on Baker College's website, Dan Summers, who serves as the Vice President for Enrollment Management Services, was quoted as saying of the newly available scholarships, “By expanding scholarship opportunities, we aim to make quality education more accessible to a broader range of students. Our commitment to removing barriers and providing holistic support is at the core of Baker College’s mission, fostering an environment where students can thrive academically and socially.”
Among the new scholarships available to students are the Bright Futures Scholarship, the First Generation Scholarship, the BeeFree Tuition Guarantee, and the Varsity Esports Scholarship. The Bright Futures Scholarship is for adult students who haven’t been in school for more than five years and have few or no college credits already. The scholarship offers these learners $3,750 per year to continue their education. The First Generation Scholarship gives $750 per year to students who are the first in their family to attend college. The BeeFree Tuition Guarantee is a last-dollar scholarship that is available to undergraduate students who qualify for maximum Pell Grant funding and have a 2.5 minimum GPA. Finally, the Varsity Esports Scholarship will give either 50% or 100% tuition coverage to students who participate in and maintain top ranks in the school’s esports team, the Swarm Varsity Team.
In addition to the new scholarships available, the school has also restructured its tuition pricing to become more simplified and easy to understand. Undergraduate tuition is now $13,500 a year for most programs, making it one of the cheapest higher education options in the state.
Linda Katrinic, Vice President of Financial Aid at Baker College, is quoted as explaining how all of these changes and additions will add up to financial savings for students. She said, “Baker is meeting students where they are in their unique educational journey to help alleviate financial challenges. Federal Pell Grant eligibility has broadened, the formula for determining financial aid through the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) has evolved, and with these enhancements our students can benefit from a simplified financial aid processing experience by using the Baker FAFSA code 004673.”
