Cincinnati State Technical and Community College partners with Southern State Community College and Wilmington College for behavioral health education

The three schools received a grant from the Ohio Department of Education to educate and train the next generation of behavioral health professionals.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College has formed a partnership with Southern State Community College and Wilmington College thanks to a grant from the Ohio Department of Education. The grant seeks to support the education of qualified behavioral health professionals, and the three partner institutions are working toward increasing the number of these professionals who will become available to work in the region after they graduate. The grant will also assist students who have received associate degrees in Social Work to move on to Wilmington College to complete a bachelor degree via a soon-to-be-established Wilmington College Accredited Social Work Pathway Program.

According to an article on Cincinnati State Technical and Community College’s website, Wilmington College’s Interim President Corey Cockerill said of the grant opportunity and the partnership, “We are grateful to our partner institutions and the Ohio Department of Higher Education for this incredible opportunity.”

Nick Balle, who serves as the Program Chair for Cincinnati State’s Human and Social Services degree and Addiction Studies major, said that the $50,000 grant will give Cincinnati State the opportunity to increase its recruiting efforts to bolster the number of students pursuing careers in behavioral health, as well as offer enrolled students even more opportunities for practicum experiences. In addition, the funding will allow for the school to seek accreditation from the Council for Standards in Human Service Education and the Ohio Coalition of Associate Degree Human Services Educators for its Health and Human Services and Addiction Studies programs.

The Wilmington College Accredited Social Work Pathway Program will also bolster the number of qualified and work-ready graduates who have already received associate degrees, as the continued education offered by Wilmington College will introduce further and more advanced concepts that will become useful in the field.
