Students who attend Macomb Community College will now have a more streamlined process when transferring to Western Michigan University thanks to a new agreement between the two schools.
Macomb Community College students who have plans to eventually transfer to Western Michigan University will now have an easier time making the switch thanks to a new agreement between the two institutions.
The agreement will allow for students at Macomb Community College to transfer to Western Michigan University to continue their education and obtain a bachelor’s degree, and will also allow individual departments at each school to make agreements between themselves, creating the potential for more specialized partnerships moving forward.
The first program-specific agreement between the two schools was for the public health program. This agreement allows students with associate degrees in public health to fully transfer all their credits to Western’s bachelor of science program in public health.
With the public health field in such high demand lately, a degree in that field of study will open up lots of career pathways for students. Students with public health degrees will seek ways to prevent the spread of disease, affect health services legislation, prevent negative population health issues in their communities, support low-income areas when it comes to health services, and more.
Western Michigan University’s public health program includes access to practical and experience-based opportunities for learning. Macomb Community College students looking to transfer to WMU’s program will have to meet the curriculum and graduation requirements of both schools.
According to an email from the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications obtained by the Western Herald, each school will have full, independent control over its course and program requirements, degree requirements, and curriculum.
Western Michigan University has dozens of other similar agreements with other institutions around the state, region, and world.
Articulation agreements, which is the type of agreement entered into between Macomb Community College and Western Michigan University, are written documents agreed upon by the involved universities, and could include student-centered options, several different types of learning options, additional transfer credits, and more.
