Construction begins on Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s new building on Newton North Campus

A new building is under construction at Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Newton North Campus. The building will be the home of several of the school’s programs such as their Dental Hygiene program.

A ceremony was held recently as Bluegrass Community and Technical College broke ground on Newtown North Campus for a new educational building. City and state officials were in attendance. The new building will be the home of the school’s Cosmetology program and Dental Hygiene program, as well as an Assessment Center, all with the goal of making these programs and services more easily accessible by members of the community.

In an article posted on the school’s website, President and CEO of Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Dr. Koffi Akakpo, spoke about his gratitude as the ground for the building was being broken, saying, “I am pleased to announce the groundbreaking of this new building. It will allow us to better serve our students and the people that need access to these services. I am grateful to our faculty, staff, legislators, and community partners for making this a reality,”

The new building will allow for more access to both BCTC’s educational services to students in the Bluegrass Region, but it will also allow more access to the school’s community resources such as placement testing, industry certification exams, and program completion assessments, all at the BCTC Assessment Center.

Students from the Dental Hygiene program and Cosmetology program were also in attendance at the ground breaking to see the future home of their studies.

Both of these programs allow for their services, dental cleaning and cosmetics, to be available to members of the public for the purpose of allowing students to hone their skills on real people, as well as to offer these services at a reduced rate. All students will be closely monitored by their instructors. Until the building is finished, the Dental Hygiene program is located next to the Kroger Field Stadium on the Cooper Campus, but does offer these services to the public in the meantime, such as bleaching, cleanings, and screenings. The Cosmetology program is currently on the Leestown Campus and offers haircuts and hair stylings, makeup application, and spa facials.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers classes on seven campuses in and around the Lexington area. More information about the school can be found on its website.
