About Bluegrass Community and Technical College

Bluegrass Community and Technical College is one of 16 individual colleges which together comprise the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. BCTC maintains three campus locations in its primary location of Lexington, Kentucky, as well as three additional regional campuses beyond Lexington.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers the following healthcare-related courses:

Medical Information Technology

Medical Information Technology graduates will work in a paraprofessional role with duties that include medical coding, medical billing, electronic medical records preparation and processing for patient information, medical office administration and medical office management. MIT graduates will work other professionals in preparing, processing and remuneration of claims and patient information needed to support these activities. Administrative technology is utilized to support clinical documentation in all aspects of these exciting careers.

Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting Program at Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers a diploma program for the medical assisting student. Our school currently offers an Associate Degree in Applied Science, which the medical assisting student can pursue as long as they meet required test scores prior to admission. Additional options include: Medical Office Clinical Assistant Certificate, Medical Office Administrative Assistant Certificate, and Medical Office Insurance Billing and Coding Certificate.

Practical Nursing

The Practical Nursing Program, approved by the Kentucky State Board of Nursing, combines classroom instruction with hands-on skill labs and supervised clinical instruction in local health care and/or other community facilities. Graduates who meet the program's academic and the Kentucky Board of Nursing requirements may apply to the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs).

A new building is under construction at Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Newton North Campus. The building will be the home of several of the school’s programs such as their Dental Hygiene program.

Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education giving $3.5 million to 25 Kentucky-area schools in summer bridge program spending

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education is giving 29 college programs $200,000 in grant money for bridge programs. The schools competed for the money based on criteria aimed at improving enrollment and graduation rates. Bridge programs help new college students adjust to college life.
