The Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program (CCAMPIS) grant comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, on behalf of the US Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE).
Indiana State University has received a $714,824 grant from the Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program (CCAMPIS). The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, on behalf of the US Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE), and is 100% federally funded. The grant will allow the university to expand support for students who are parents through childcare assistance and other support services.
According to an article on Indiana State University's website, Holly Curtsinger, who serves as the director of the Jan McCarthy Early Childhood Education Center, was quoted as saying of the grant, “This grant provides us with an important opportunity to strengthen the support system for Indiana State students who are balancing the responsibilities of being both a student and a parent. Access to affordable, high-quality childcare can make a tremendous difference in a student’s ability to attend class, complete their coursework and remain on track toward earning a degree.”
The university’s Jan McCarthy Early Childhood Education Center provides childcare and early childhood education for students, faculty, and staff members at the university. Thanks to the grant funding, eligible student-parents will have help meeting out-of-pocket childcare expenses and make it easier for them to utilize the services of the Jan McCarthy Early Childhood Education Center.
The grant funding will also allow the university to hire a full-time navigator and advocate who is dedicated to assisting student-parents. That individual will help student parents find the services that are available to them on campus, as well as help students gain access to outside resources.
The grant aims to reduce barriers to education for student parents by giving them financial assistance for childcare and by helping them find other resources that will help them stay in school amid their parenting responsibilities.
The CCAMPIS program provides grants to educational institutions that seek to assist low-income student parents through camps-based childcare.
