University of Evansville receives $1 million gift from Evansville couple

Randall and Cheryl Alsman have given the University of Evansville a $1 million gift that will support the university for years to come. The couple’s gift will be directed to the UEvansville Fund and the university’s Strategic Reserves Fund, providing both immediate support for students and strategic support for the university’s future.

According to an article on the University of Evansville’s website, Christopher M. Pietruszkiewicz, the university’s president, was quoted as saying of the couple’s gift, "Randy and Cheryl's generosity strengthens UE in one of the most meaningful ways possible: by giving the University the ability to act decisively when opportunities and needs arise. This kind of flexible support helps ensure we can invest with purpose, respond with confidence, and keep our students, faculty, and staff at the center of every decision. We are grateful for their belief in this University and for the lasting impact their support will have on our campus and broader community."

The Alsmans have long been supporters of the University of Evansville. They have given to the university faithfully over the years, despite not having any alumni connections to the school. They are members of the Evansville, Indiana community and believe in the work that is being done in the region through the university. Both Randy and Cheryl attended Harrison High School and are active in the community. Randy is President of the Evansville Redevelopment Commission, President of the Signature School Board and Signature School's Foundation Board, and a member of the UE Board of Trustees. At one time he was chair of the University's Board of Visitors and co-chair of the UE FORWARD Campaign.

Speaking of the couple’s decision to provide the university with this gift, Randy said, "Cheryl and I have seen the momentum building at the University of Evansville, and we believe this is a critical time to invest in that progress. UE has a remarkable ability to change lives, serve this region, and prepare students for meaningful work, leadership, and service. We wanted our gift to give the University the flexibility to meet immediate needs while continuing to build for the future."

The couple’s gift will be split between the UEvansville Fund and the University's Strategic Reserves Fund. 

According to the webpage for the UEvansville Fund, it aims “To prepare students for a changing future, we must help meet crucial needs – for financial support, for health and wellness, and for a learning environment that reflects our evolving world.” By donating to the UEvansville Fund, the Alsmans are providing students with immediate support, and supporting the day-to-day needs of the school, such as faculty resources and program support.

The University’s Strategic Reserve Fund will receive funding from the Alsmans over the next five years. It will strengthen the university’s financial position to allow it to respond to challenges and opportunities as they arise, also providing the university with stability and the ability to address both high-priority needs and long-term investments.
