The grant comes from the United Way of Southwestern Indiana’s Pathways to Potential initiative.
The Emily M. Young Mental Health Clinic at the University of Evansville has received a grant from the United Way of Southwestern Indiana’s Pathways to Potential initiative. The grant is in the amount of $250,000, which will support the clinic’s mission to provide comprehensive mental health services to lower-income individuals.
According to an article on the University of Evansville’s website, Dr. Jennifer Braun, who serves as the director of the UE Emily M. Young Mental Health Clinic and as a clinical assistant professor of psychology, was quoted as saying of the grant, "This investment will help us meet our community where they are, even when financial or other barriers stand in the way. It will also strengthen the supervised clinical experience that prepares our UE doctoral students to serve our region as compassionate, highly trained psychologists."
The Emily M. Young Mental Health Clinic was established in 2024 as a community health center that provides behavioral health services for people aged five and older. According to the webpage for the clinic, its mission is to “provide accessible, high-quality mental health services to the community while training the next generation of ethical, culturally responsive clinical psychologists within an integrated, interdisciplinary model.” Additionally, it focuses on integrity, innovation, intellectual curiosity, inclusivity, and education for the whole person.
Among the services the clinic can provide are individual, group, and couples therapy; psychological testing; diagnostic psychiatric interviews; psychotropic medication prescription and management; ordering ultrasounds and EKG; lab interpretation; GeneSight testing; lifestyle modification counseling; sleep hygiene education; coping skills training; smoking cessation; population health management; and referrals to community resources.
The clinic serves as a training site for advanced doctoral students in UE's Koch Family Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology Program for the Master of Physician Assistant Science.
The grant from the United Way of Southwestern Indiana will help the clinic provide services to lower-income individuals, families, and individuals who would otherwise face barriers to receiving care through its Pathways to Potential initiative.
