Gogebic Community College forms new articulation agreements with Northern Michigan University

The new articulation agreements are in Environmental Science/Natural Resources and Criminal Justice, providing new pathways to bachelor degrees.

Gogebic Community College and Northern Michigan University have formed new articulation agreements to expand access to bachelor degrees in the upper peninsula of Michigan. The new articulation agreements are for Environmental Science/Natural Resources and Criminal Justice.

According to an article on Gogebic Community College’s website, Jared Evans, who serves as the college’s Student Success Coordinator/Transfer Coordinator, was quoted as saying of the Environmental Science/Natural Resources articulation agreement, “This agreement utilizes the attributes of both institutions to give students the tools needed to build rewarding careers in Environmental Science, which is especially important in the Upper Peninsula where natural resources are deeply connected to our communities. Northern Michigan University values the strong partnership built with Gogebic Community College. Together, we’ve created clear and reliable transfer pathways that help students move confidently from an associate’s degree to a bachelor’s program.”

The curriculum for Gogebic Community College’s Natural Resources program was recently updated, and with these new updates, students can now complete an associate degree in Natural Resources and then seamlessly transfer into Northern Michigan University’s Environmental Science bachelor degree program.

The articulation agreement for the Environmental Science/Natural Resources programs was developed by Evans, Tanya Savage, who is the Assistant Director of Admissions – Transfer Pathways and Partnerships at Northern Michigan University, Bill Perkis and Chuck Norgren of Gogebic Community College’s Forestry Technology program, GCC Biology Faculty Chenin Limback, and Sarah Mittlefehldt, who is NMU Environmental Science Interim Department Head.

The articulation agreement for the Criminal Justice program is offered by Northern Michigan University’s Global Campus, providing increased flexibility for individuals who are also balancing careers to earn their degree. This pathway was made possible through cooperation between Karen Ball, the GCC Teacher Education Faculty/Registrar, Social Science Department Chair Tara Tregembo, Evans, Savage, and Bob Hanson, the Criminal Justice Department Head at Northern Michigan University.
