Edison State Community College offers new practical nursing certificate program

The college’s Eaton Campus will be home for the new certificate program that will allow participants to enter the workforce as a licensed practical nurse or continue their education to become a registered nurse.

Edison State Community College is launching a new practical nursing certificate program at its Eaton Campus. The new program is accepting applications until December 1, 2025, with classes beginning on January 20, 2026.

According to an article on Edison State Community College’s website, Leah Wells, who serves as the Director of Associate Degree in Nursing and Practical Nursing Certificate, was quoted as saying of the new program offering, “Becoming a licensed practical nurse opens doors to rewarding opportunities in health care. LPNs play a vital role in supporting patient care, working closely with registered nurses and contributing to a strong, collaborative health care team—all while gaining hands-on experience and building toward an in-demand career.”

Individuals who participate in the program will become prepared to provide patient-centered care in long-term care facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and in home health care settings. They will work under the supervision of a registered nurse, physician, dentist, podiatrist, or optometrist.

In order to become a licensed practical nurse, those who complete the two-semester program must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. With this certification, they will be able to enter the workforce and work as a licensed practical nurse. Those who complete the program can also choose to move on to further nursing courses offered at Edison State Community College and apply their earned credits toward those programs, which are an Associate Degree in Nursing program and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

The new licensed practical nurse program has received conditional approval from the Ohio Board of Nursing and is also approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission.
