University of Mount Union to introduce new Family Nurse Practitioner certificate program

The new program, which is designed for individuals who already have a graduate nursing degree, will be available in January 2026.

The University of Mount Union has announced that it has added a Family Nurse Practitioner certificate program to its roster, set to begin in January of 2026. The program is being added to the offerings provided by the university’s new School of Nursing, formerly the Department of Nursing, which includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, a Master of Science in Nursing program, a 36-month fast track traditional BSN program, and an accelerated second-degree BSN program.

According to an article on the University of Mount Union’s website, Dr. Betty Allen, the director of the university’s School of Nursing, was quoted as saying of the new certificate program, “We are very excited to offer a post-graduate FNP certificate option for professional nurses ready to advance in the field or change their area of speciality. These students will benefit from our supportive environment and knowledgeable faculty while offering a curriculum that is flexible to the demanding schedules of working nurses.”

The new program is designed to be flexible for working registered nurses, and it can be completed in less than two years. According to the Family Nurse Practitioner certificate program page, the program “offers a streamlined pathway to becoming a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner” for RNs and APRNs. Family Nurse Practitioners are primary care providers who can work in clinics, private practices, school health clinics, urgent care centers, and more.

The estimated cost of the program is $19,200 for 24 credits. Prerequisite courses include Advanced Pathophysiology, Advanced Pharmacology, and Advanced Health Assessment.
