Edison State Community College’s Charger Station food pantries receive $2,000 grant

The Edison Foundation at Edison State Community College has recently received a $2,000 grant from the Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation to support the school’s Charger Station food pantries.

The Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation and the Cincinnati operating division on behalf of Edison State Community College recently presented The Edison Foundation with a $2,000 grant. That money will be used to support the Charger Station food pantries. The grant was presented by Kroger representatives to Edison State Community College officials during their visit to the grand opening event of the Piqua Kroger.

The purpose of the Kroger Co. Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Foundation is to provide support to social entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, and nonprofit organizations that are focused on improving access to food to improve food security while simultaneously ending food waste, among other goals.

Edison State Community College’s Charger Station food pantries were started back in 2019, and are run by the college’s Student Needs Team. The Charger Stations are available to all Edison State students, and can be found at each Edison State location. The pantries provide items for Edison State students such as information on how to access local resources, school supplies, toiletries, and food. The college wants to make sure that students facing food insecurity are given the resources they need to be able to achieve their degrees and successfully follow their academic and career dreams.

In an article posted on Edison State Community College’s website, Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Jeannette Passmore was quoted about the pantries, saying, “Edison State is committed to removing barriers to student success, both academic and non-academic. When students don’t have to worry about basic needs like food, they can focus on their studies and reach their goals. This partnership with Kroger helps us address the everyday challenges that can prevent students from completing their education.”
