The articulation agreement provides a transfer pathway for students with an associate degree in dental hygiene from Macomb Community College to partake in U of M’s accelerated Master of Science in Dental Hygiene online program.

Macomb Community College and the University of Michigan have formed an articulation agreement that provides a transfer pathway for students who complete an associate degree in Dental Hygiene at Macomb Community College to continue on to U of M’s online and accelerated Master of Science in Dental Hygiene program.

According to an article on Macomb Community College’s website, Wendi Sparks, who serves as the associate dean of Dental Sciences at the college, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “This agreement provides Macomb dental hygiene graduates with a seamless pathway to advance their education and expand career opportunities within the evolving field of dental hygiene. These transfer opportunities ensure our graduates are well prepared to contribute to the future of dental hygiene while strengthening the talent pipeline for local health care and industry growth. At Macomb, student success is at the heart of everything we do, and agreements like this reinforce our commitment to advancing dental hygiene education and career development.”

The accelerated Master of Science in Dental Hygiene program will begin in the fall semester and is a part-time status program. It will allow students at Macomb Community College to take the classes online and be able to concurrently enroll in both institutions. In order to participate, students must have obtained an Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene degree from Macomb Community College and have earned at least a 3.0 GPA. They must also have a current license to practice dental hygiene in the US and must have current local anesthesia and nitrous oxide licenses.

Stefanie VanDuine, who serves as the director of Degree Completion in Dental Hygiene at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, said of the partnership, "By partnering with Macomb Community College, we are able to provide a smooth transition for dental hygiene graduates to join our Accelerated Online AS-MS in Dental Hygiene program. This agreement enables Macomb graduates to advance their education and expand career opportunities in education, public health, leadership and research. Our fully online, part-time format offers flexibility for students who need to balance studies with other commitments. We look forward to welcoming and supporting Macomb graduates in their growth."

The program allows for 60 dental hygiene credits and 24 general education credits to transfer from Macomb Community College, and participating students in the pathway program must complete 54 credits at UM-Ann Arbor.
