The agreement will provide a seamless transfer pathway for West Virginia Northern Community College students in three specific programs to continue their education at West Liberty University.
West Virginia Northern Community College and West Liberty University have come together to form an Enrollment and Guaranteed Admission Agreement called the Thundering Hilltoppers program. The Thundering Hilltoppers program will provide West Virginia Northern Community College students in certain programs with the opportunity to transfer seamlessly to West Liberty University to finish their bachelor degree.
According to an article on West Virginia Northern Community College’s website, the college’s president, Dr. Daniel Mosser, was quoted as saying of the agreement, “This agreement enhances our ability to provide affordable and accessible higher education options for students. By working jointly with WLU, we are providing a clearer and more efficient pathway to a four-year WLU student experience and a cost-efficient degree through Northern.”
In order to be eligible for the Thundering Hilltoppers program, West Virginia Northern Community College students must earn one of the following degrees: Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), or Board of Governors Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.). Students who earned these degrees with at least a 2.0 GPA will be guaranteed admission into West Liberty University’s four-year degree programs. Students who apply to West Virginia Northern Community College to pursue one of the three associate degree programs will be simultaneously enrolled at West Liberty University, and a reverse-transfer process will exist, as well, for West Liberty University students who wish to pursue an associate degree at West Virginia Northern Community College.
Additionally, the program will provide students who participate with the resources and benefits of attending both institutions, including academic advising and other support, as well as access to joint events between the two schools. Up to 72 credits can transfer from West Virginia Northern Community College to West Liberty University.
Dr. Tim Borchers, the president of West Liberty University, said, “We are thankful for our partnership with WVNCC and what it means for students in the greater Wheeling community. Through this arrangement, we hope to increase opportunities for local residents to complete their college degree. New online offerings at WLU will expand these opportunities as well.”
