The scholarship is for full time students who are studying in the College of Arts and Letters.
Austin Peay State University has a new scholarship for students who are studying in the College of Arts and Letters. APSU graduate George Zepp established the Zepp Family Endowed Scholarship in honor of his parents, Virginia and Randall Zepp. George Zepp is an accomplished journalist and hopes the scholarship will entice individuals to study communications, literature, and writing.
According to an article on Austin Peay State University, the university’s Vice President for Alumni, Engagement and Philanthropy, Kris Phillips, was quoted as saying of the new scholarship, "When your passion is your work, it shows in all you do. We are grateful to Mr. Zepp who has made this gift to allow students to follow their passions as well—a hallmark of the Govs For Life Experience."
George Zepp graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1972. He was editor of the school newspaper and pursued journalism after college, spending more than 33 years in the career. He wrote for the newspaper The Tennessean and later wrote the book “Hidden History of Nashville.” Before him, his parents were both longtime supporters of the university, as well.
Speaking of his decision to endow a scholarship at the university, George said, “I feel quite privileged to be able to provide support for students at Austin Peay while continuing a legacy established by my parents so many years ago. With this fund, the Zepp family will be forever tied to student success.”
The scholarship is available to full time students who are enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters and have at least a 3.0 grade point average. Of those who apply, individuals from the Department of Communication and the Department of Languages and Literature and those who are first-generation college students or those who come from underrepresented communities will be given priority in selection. Students who apply must submit a short essay that explains their interest in the scholarship and how receiving it would affect them.
