Indiana State University alumni gift funds to women’s basketball team

Charlie and Terri Lentz have designated funding to the Indiana State University women’s basketball team through their estate. The funding can be used for scholarships, infrastructure improvements, or other enhancements for the team.

Indiana State University alumni Charlie and Terri Lentz have designated funding through their estate to the university’s women's basketball team to provide student athletes with scholarships or to make necessary improvements to programming or infrastructure.

According to an article on Indiana State University’s website, Charlie Lentz was quoted as saying of his and his wife’s contribution, "We hope this gift will make it easier for the women’s basketball team to achieve success, whether that be through scholarships or other programming necessities. Many of the resources that are available today for students weren’t available when we were in school, so we wanted to contribute toward expanding opportunities for current and future students. We’ve been immensely blessed, and we hope others who have experienced that fortune would consider paying it forward.”

Charlie and Terri Lentz are both graduates of Indiana State University. Charlie graduated with a bachelor degree in physical education and social studies and Terri graduated with a bachelor degree in English and social studies. Throughout Charlie’s career, he served as a high school teacher, a real estate agent, an appraiser, and a basketball coach. Terri was a teacher for 46 years. Since they completed their studies at Indiana State University, the couple has supported the women’s basketball team and the College of Education.

Mike Godard, the university’s president, was quoted as saying of the donation, “Indiana State University is incredibly grateful for the generosity of Charlie and Terri Lentz, proud alumni and dedicated supporters of our institution. Their gift will make a meaningful impact on our student-athletes and Sycamore Athletics, particularly our women’s basketball program, empowering Indiana State to advance both academically and competitively for years to come.”

Andrea Angel, who serves as the Vice President of University Advancement and the CEO of the Indiana State University Foundation, echoed these sentiments, saying, “Charlie and Terri’s generosity will allow us to elevate our women’s basketball program. Their support will provide our women’s basketball team with invaluable tools to empower our student-athletes to excel in their athletics and their academics. We are inspired by the Lentzes and their dedication to the growth of our students and athletic programs at Indiana State.”
