The Bluegrass College Academy is a dual credit program that will allow students in Boyle County to earn an Associate of Art degree in tandem with their high school diploma.
Bluegrass Community and Technical College will be launching the Bluegrass College Academy at the beginning of the Fall 2025 semester. The Bluegrass College Academy is a dual credit opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to enroll at BCTC and earn their high school diploma and an associate degree simultaneously. The academy will be available at BCTC’s Danville campus.
According to an article on Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s website, Dr. Greg Feeney, the college’s president and CEO, was quoted as saying of the new program, "Our dual credit enrollment continues to grow. By offering dual credit through the Bluegrass College Academy at our Danville Campus, we’re able to expand our reach and positively impact student outcomes. The data shows that students enrolled in these programs experience higher completion rates in both high school and college. I’m incredibly proud of our partnership with local high schools, as it plays a key role in improving access and supporting student success.”
The Bluegrass College Academy is designed so that junior and senior high school students will take one college course per day each week. They can choose to do so on the Danville campus or online. Aside from the one class per day through the college, students will devote the rest of their time to their high school curriculum. At the end of their senior year, students will have earned their high school diploma, an associate degree, and a Gen Ed Certification that ensures they have completed all general education requirements for any public university in the state.
The program will significantly reduce the cost that comes along with earning a degree. In order to be eligible to participate in the program, students must have at least a 3.2 GPA. The deadline to apply for the Fall 2025 semester of the Bluegrass College Academy is July 15.
Ty Howard, the director of the Danville Campus, said, “I am very excited that our campus can offer this opportunity to area students. This would start their college journey, and I would look forward to working with them daily. With my 30 years in secondary education, I would feel right at home with high school students. If there is any concern about students struggling with the class load, we have many support systems in place on our campus including tutoring, advising, counseling, college transition skills, and career exploration.”
