New River Community and Technical College and University of Charleston form articulation agreement

The agreement will allow New River Community and Technical College students who have earned an associate degree to transfer to the University of Charleston to complete a bachelor degree.

New River Community and Technical College and the University of Charleston have partnered to provide students with a more seamless educational experience by creating a simple pathway from associate degree to bachelor degree. The 2 + 2 articulation agreement will give students the opportunity to pursue a bachelor degree at the University of Charleston after earning an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science from New River Community and Technical College.

According to an article on New River Community and Technical College’s website, Dr. Bonny Copenhaver, the college’s president, shared her thoughts on the partnership, saying, “We are excited to strengthen our collaboration with the University of Charleston through this 2+2 articulation agreement. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education and ensuring a seamless transition for students as they progress in their academic careers.”

As part of the agreement, students can transfer directly from New River Community and Technical College to the University of Charleston with the assurance that their credits will carry over in a way that will maximize the work they have already completed. The institutions have aligned their curricula in order to help students save time and money as they continue their educational journeys.

Students will be provided with a map that will lay out their credits and show them how to take their associate degree to a bachelor degree. The aligned curricula between the two schools will give them direct pathways to follow.

Dr. Marty Roth, the president of the University of Charleston, said of the agreement, “The University of Charleston has a long history of providing relevant and flexible curriculum allowing our students to graduate on time and with low student loan debt. We look forward to working with New River CTC students who wish to continue their education beyond their associate degree.”

Students coming from New River Community and Technical College will be eligible to apply for scholarships at the University of Charleston, including the CTC Partnership Scholarship that provides $2,500 per year.
