The Cardiac Sonography program will be available beginning June 10. When the north end of the new healthcare education center opens in the Fall 2024 semester, the Cardiac Sonography program will move there.
Owens Community College has added another program to its roster of offerings in the form of a Cardiac Sonography program, which will be housed in the campus’ new healthcare education center, partially opening in the Fall 2024 semester. The rest of the building will open in Spring 2025. The Cardiac Sonography program’s first classes begin on June 10.
According to an article on Owens Community College’s website, Julie Posey, director of the new Cardiac Sonography program, was quoted as saying, “We know from working with the local hospitals, there is an immediate need for cardiac sonographers. We are excited to add cardiac sonography to our department that also includes diagnostic medical sonography and vascular sonography.”
Cardiac sonography is the practice of taking ultrasounds of the heart in order to diagnose certain conditions or diseases. As a cardiac sonographer, an individual would prepare equipment, operate equipment during the procedure, prepare patients for their ultrasounds, and review medical history, all of which are skills students will learn in the new program at Owens Community College.
The healthcare education center is currently still under construction, so it will not be ready to accommodate the first cohort of Cardiac Sonography students. The program will move over to the healthcare education center, which includes simulation areas and high-tech laboratories, when its north end opens in Fall 2024. The rest of the building will be ready for occupation in Spring 2025.
