The Dental Assisting program at Owens Community College lasts three semesters and will train students in the everyday responsibilities of an entry-level dental assistant. Dental assistant students will learn administrative and clerical skills, like assisting the dentist with exams, performing lab procedures, and scheduling appointments. Students can take the CODA certification exam upon completion of the program.
Students in the Medical Coding program will be instructed in the coding languages used by medical coders. Students will learn how and when to apply the codes to the correct procedures. After completing the program, students can apply credit to an AAS in Health Information Technology.
Students have two options at Owens Community College when studying in the Medical Assistant program: certificate or degree. Each will prepare students to become competent entry-level medical assistants by instructing in the clinical and administrative duties performed routinely by these healthcare workers. Topics of study introduced include anatomy, medical coding, and emergency preparedness.
The Practical Nursing program at Owens Community College intends to prepare students for work as entry-level practical nurses. Students will learn pharmacology, anatomy, and nutrition during their studies. In addition to classroom work, students will also participate in supervised clinicals. At the end of the program, students can test for certification.
Students in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program will learn the skills necessary to work as an entry-level occupational therapy assistant. Courses in the program include Intro to Kinesiology, Lifespan Psychology, and Interpersonal Communication. Graduates of the program may take the exam given by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
The Peer Specialist Apprenticeship is a human services apprenticeship program that gives students the opportunity for paid work within their area of interest while still pursuing a degree.

The Cardiac Sonography program will be available beginning June 10. When the north end of the new healthcare education center opens in the Fall 2024 semester, the Cardiac Sonography program will move there.
