The agreement will allow for a seamless transfer experience for students who wish to progress in their education following their graduation from Northeast State Community College.
Northeast State Community College and the University of the Cumberlands have signed a transfer agreement to create a smoother experience for students who wish to progress in their education following their graduation from Northeast State Community College. The agreement outlines transfer credits and the level of access students will have to the university’s support resources during the transfer process.
According to an article on Northeast State Community College’s website, Dr. Connie Marshall, who serves as the college’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, explained that the transfer agreement serves to formalize processes that were already taking place. She is quoted as saying, “One of our goals is to give our students as many pathways to progress in whatever direction they want to go. Our students were taking advantage of what UC was giving them, so we are excited this agreement can make it official.”
The agreement states that the University of the Cumberlands will grant transfer credit for any and all college-level coursework students completed with a passing grade at Northeast State Community College. Transfer students will also receive financial incentives from the university, including per-credit-hour tuition, fee-free application for admission, and free textbooks. Students will also have access to an admission counselor and other support services.
Additionally, students will have flexibility in their transfer and can choose to transfer after completing their associate degree at Northeast State Community College, or before completing their degree.
Dr. Stephanie Barham, who serves as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Programs, Assessments, and Accreditation at Northeast State Community College, explained some of the benefits of this agreement. She said, “It provides another clear pathway for our students to transfer for the associate’s degree to enter their bachelor’s degree program. It also provides opportunities for the removal of barriers when it comes to financial burdens for our students.”
Northeast State Community College President Dr. Jeff McCord said, “We appreciate the way the University of the Cumberlands honors the education provided at Northeast State. University of the Cumberlands is [a] true partner to our college and a great next step for our students.”
Dr. Timothy Noe, the Vice President for Enrollment at the University of the Cumberlands, said, “At Cumberland we really care about students, what they are doing, and where they are going. We pursue every opportunity to partner with like-minded institutions that care about students.”
