Northeast State Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Elizabethton sign articulation agreements

Northeast State Community College and Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Elizabethton have signed four articulation agreements to create technical skill and computer science pathways. The agreements will allow students who attend specific TCAT Elizabethton programs to transfer their credits toward associate of applied science degrees at Northeast State Community College.

According to an article on Northeast State Community College’s website, Dr. Jeff McCord, who serves as the president of Northeast State Community College, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “It is a decision to do what’s best for the region we serve and what’s best for the students working to make a better life; and it’s a decision to honor the education earned at a TCAT. We want to honor that education and treat TCAT students as we should. We appreciate the partnership and alignment of purpose that we have with TCAT.”

Northeast State Community College and TCAT Elizabethton have several articulation agreements in place. The newest provides pathways in Machine Tool Technology to Industrial Technology – Machine Tool; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Technology to Industrial Technology – Mechanical; Automotive certificate to Automotive Technology – Automotive Specialist; and Computer Information Technology (CIT) to Computer Information Technology.

The two institutions will share the currently under construction Carter County Higher Education Center, which will be a collaborative learning space that will provide additional learning experiences for students at each school.

Heath McMillian, who serves as the president of TCAT Elizabethton, said, “This partnership is making a difference for our students, our region, and our industries. We expect this partnership to grow even more as the Higher Education Center comes along in Carter County.”

Dr. Richard Church, the Executive Vice President of Instruction, Dual Enrollment and Accreditation at TCAT Elizabethton, added, “This is a tremendous effort to create pathways that are now open for our students.”

Other current articulation agreements in place at Northeast State Community College include those with East Tennessee State University, Milligan University, Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Morristown, and University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
