Baker College named as a member to the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate

The school’s addition to this consortium will allow it to continuously improve its Doctor of Education program through the resources provided by the over 165 higher education institutions.

Baker College was recently added as a member to the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate. The CPED is an international consortium of over 165 universities and colleges that have a focus on improving the quality of the Doctor of Education (or EdD) degree, while also making sure that the education leaders of tomorrow are prepared for the job, and addressing contemporary challenges in education.

The CPED is a network that operates on an invitation only basis, but those members who are invited are brought together into an environment dedicated to advancing doctoral education through collaboration, innovation, and scholarly practice. The members of the consortium collectively work to reimagine and improve their EdD program so that graduates can inspire impactful change across the education industry, as well as other organizations that utilize humanities focused workers.

Baker College is one of eighteen total institutions who have recently been invited into the CPED. The schools join an ever growing community from around the world, dedicated to educating future EdD recipients through real-world problem-solving, professional knowledge, and research.

In an article posted on Baker College’s website, Dr. Jill A. Perry, who serves as the Executive Director of CPED, spoke about the consortium’s new editions, saying, “For nearly two decades, CPED has been the leading voice in advancing the Education Doctorate as a rigorous, practice-focused degree. Each new member institution brings a unique perspective and a shared commitment to preparing transformational leaders who can navigate complexity, exercise leadership responsibly, and create meaningful change.”

The Doctor of Education program at Baker College is presently in line with most of CPED’s guiding principles. It offers students the ability to obtain their degree through either a capstone pathway or a more traditional dissertation. This flexibility lets students pursue the scholarly materials best suited to their professional goals while also working to address many of the challenges contemporary educational organizations face.

Robert Walker, EdD, who serves as the Program Director of Elementary Education and Educational Leadership, noted the importance of joining CPED for the school, saying, “Foining CPED is an important milestone for Baker College and a testament to the strength and vision of our Doctor of Education program. Our program is designed to prepare scholar-practitioners who can lead with purpose, apply research to solve real-world challenges, and create meaningful change within their schools and communities. Membership in CPED connects our faculty and students to an international network of educational leaders dedicated to advancing excellence in professional doctoral education.”

Now that the school is part of CPED, its administrators, students, and faculty will be able to have access to a collaborative, professional learning community that prioritizes continuous program improvement, innovation, research, and scholarly exchange. The partnership will also fortify the school’s commitment to making sure its students have the ability to become educational leaders who are able to positively impact student outcomes, influence policy, and improve pedagogical systems.

Baker College’s Doctor of Education program serves to prepare educators who are already influenced in their field as well as organizational leaders to become forces of positive change through practical application, strategic decision-making, and research-informed leadership. The program combines flexible pathways designed for working professionals with academic rigor, so that its graduates can continue their career paths able to more powerfully address complex educational challenges.
