Indiana State University receives gift from alumnus to name E. Daniel and Sue Reinhard Family Safety, Health, and Environment Lab

The lab is located within the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology and supports students in the Safety Management program, which will soon be known as the Safety, Health and Environment program.

Indiana State University has received a gift from alumnus Dan Reinhard and his family that will contribute to and name the new E. Daniel and Sue Reinhard Family Safety, Health, and Environment Lab in the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology. The lab will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students in the university’s Safety Management program, which will soon become the Safety, Health and Environment program. The gift from the Reinhards will also establish a scholarship for students in the Safety, Health and Environment program.

According to an article on Indiana State University’s website, Dr. Divya Choudhary, who serves as the dean of the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology, was quoted as saying of the new lab, “This investment directly enhances the way our students learn. The Safety, Health and Environment Lab will serve as a hub for applied learning, giving students the opportunity to develop the technical skills and real-world experience that employers desire.”

The Bailey College of Engineering and Technology is currently undergoing renovations and construction and is expected to be completed later in 2026. The new E. Daniel and Sue Reinhard Family Safety, Health, and Environment Lab will be located in Room 221 of the facility. The lab will provide hands-on learning opportunities for students who are looking to head into careers that focus on workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and public health.

Dan Reinhard graduated from Indiana State University in 1968. He was the very first student in the university’s environmental health program. Reinhard went on to have a long career with the U.S. Navy and within the Department of Defense.

Speaking of his experience at Indiana State University, and his decision to support the university with his financial contribution, Reinhard said, “Indiana State opened the door to a career I had never imagined. I am honored to give back and support students pursuing this important work, and our hope is that they build meaningful careers focused on protecting the health and safety of others.”

The Reinhard Family Safety Scholarship will also be established thanks to the gift from the Reinhards. The scholarship will provide financial support to the Safety, Health and Environment program.

University president Mike Godard said, “Today’s announcement reflects the power of philanthropy to transform student experiences. The Reinhard family’s generosity will provide our students with access to state-of-the-art learning environments and prepare them to make meaningful contributions in fields that protect lives and strengthen communities.”

Andrea Angel, the Vice President for University Advancement and the CEO of the Indiana State University Foundation, added, “We are incredibly grateful to Dan and his family for their vision and generosity. Their support not only strengthens our academic programs but also creates opportunities for students to succeed and lead in essential, high-impact careers.”
