The two institutions came together at the end of April to expand their existing partnership from nine bachelor degree transfer pathways to 22.
Davenport University and Kalamazoo Valley Community College have expanded their existing transfer partnership to benefit more students. Their initial partnership included transfer pathways for nine bachelor degree programs, and at the end of April, the two institutions came together to expand that number to 22. The expanded partnership will create more accessible transfer pathways for students who wish to transfer from Kalamazoo Valley Community College into Davenport University.
According to an article on Davenport University's website, university president Richard J. Pappas, Ed.D., was quoted as saying of the partnership, “At Davenport University, we are deeply committed to creating clear, affordable pathways that help students achieve their educational and career goals without unnecessary barriers. Our expanded partnership with Kalamazoo Valley reflects a shared focus on student success, allowing learners to maximize transfer credits, reduce costs and move efficiently to a bachelor’s degree. Together, we are making higher education more accessible, flexible and aligned with the realities of today’s students.”
The expansion of the partnership is intended to help more students save time and money as they progress from Kalamazoo Valley Community College to Davenport University. The partnership will provide pathways for students who complete an associate degree to transfer their credits to a bachelor degree program at the university. This way, students will be able to complete up to 90 credits at the community college, at a community college price, and bring them to the university, resulting in an overall cheaper bachelor degree. The new expansion brings almost all of the bachelor degree programs into the transfer pathways, with the possibility of more of the programs being available in the future.
Kalamazoo Valley Community College President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D. said, “This partnership is about flexibility and opportunity. Students don’t have to choose between entering the workforce quickly with an associate degree or committing upfront to a four-year program. With thoughtful planning, they can do both on a timeline and budget that works for them.”
