Columbus State Community College partners with Nationwide Children’s Hospital

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has donated $1 million to the college’s efforts to double its number of healthcare graduates through the purchase of new equipment.

Columbus State Community College has received a $1 million gift from Nationwide Children’s Hospital to purchase new training equipment, part of the college’s larger effort to double the number of students who graduate from its healthcare programs. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the largest employers of Columbus State Community College healthcare graduates.

According to an article on Columbus State Community College’s website, Tim Robinson, the Chief Executive Officer of Nationwide Children’s Hospital, was quoted as saying, “We are proud to deepen our relationship with Columbus State through this ambitious effort to grow the next generation of health care professionals. Ensuring our region has a strong, highly trained workforce is essential to meeting the growing needs of children and families. By supporting access to advanced training and education, we are strengthening the pipeline of talented caregivers who will deliver exceptional care across central Ohio for years to come.”

Nationwide Children’s Hospital has supported Columbus State Community College since 2021 when it first fully funded its employees to partake in the college’s respiratory therapy program. In the years since, it has expanded its full support for employees to participate in the nursing, medical laboratory technology, medical imaging, pharmacy technician, and surgical technology programs.

Lorina Wise, the Chief Human Resources Officer for Nationwide Children’s Hospital, said, “For many years, Columbus State has been an invaluable resource in helping us grow and develop our workforce. From respiratory therapy and pharmacy technology to nursing and other critical clinical roles, their programs create meaningful career pathways for our staff. There has never been a more important time to invest in healthcare talent, and we deeply appreciate Columbus State’s commitment to high-quality, affordable education that prepares graduates to thrive in today’s healthcare environment.”

With its $1 million investment in equipment for students in healthcare programs, Nationwide Children’s Hospital is helping to ensure its current and future employees, as well as those who will staff other regional medical systems and clinics, are training on the types of equipment they will use in their careers.

Columbus State Community College president David Harrison said, “We’re grateful to Nationwide Children’s Hospital for their integral commitment to expanding the region’s health care workforce. Nationwide Children’s support will ensure our students are prepared with current practices and advanced medical technology, leading to great jobs, successful careers, and quality healthcare for central Ohio.”

Nationwide Children’s Hospital will also be financially supporting the college’s new OhioHealth Hall, which started construction in 2025. The support from Nationwide Children’s will help purchase training equipment that will be housed within the new building, and will name two new labs: The RN Skills and the Respiratory Care & Support labs.
