The partnerships will help create pathways for students to earn Health Information Management degrees from Davenport University and create a pipeline of individuals who are qualified to help keep patients’ health data protected.
Davenport University has formed three new partnerships that will create pathways for students to earn degrees in Health Information Management, a field that helps keep patients’ personal health data protected. The university’s College of Health Professions has formed partnerships with Southern University at New Orleans, Leeward Community College in Honolulu, and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society.
According to an article on Davenport University's website, Joe Brown, who serves as the chair of the university’s Allied Health and Health Information Management department, was quoted as saying of the new partnerships, “With these partnerships, the university is committed to providing HIM pathways and opportunities for students to advance with higher degrees than their current institutions offer. These partnerships provide a streamlined pathway for students to advance their education by seamlessly transferring their current program credits to Davenport, allowing them to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field.”
Davenport University’s Health Information Management program is a 100% online and flexible program, giving individuals who wish to enter into the field the ability to earn their degree while still working and managing their own busy schedules. The bachelor degree program also falls under Davenport’s Employment Guarantee, meaning students who graduate from this program are guaranteed to find a job in the field within six months, or they will become eligible for additional education benefits if they cannot.
Students who earn a bachelor degree in Health Information Management from Davenport University will be eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Administrator. Additionally, students can customize their bachelor degree with specializations in cancer tumor registry, global project management, or revenue management.
The new partnership with Southern University at New Orleans is a 4+1 pathway that allows students to complete their bachelor degree in Health Information Management at Southern University in four years, and then, with one additional year at Davenport University, the student will also complete a master’s degree in Health Information Management.
The partnership with Leeward Community College includes two degree pathways students can choose from. Each pathway awards students with a bachelor degree in Health Information Management, and one pathway also leads students to earning a master’s degree in an accelerated format, as well.
The third partnership is with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Individuals who are part of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, as well as their dependents, are eligible for a 20% tuition discount on professional development programs at Davenport University.
Amy Stahley, the dean of Davenport University’s College of Health Professions, said, “Davenport’s health information management program is 100% online and merges information technology, business, problem-solving and management skills within each degree. Our team of seasoned faculty know exactly which information management technology skills you’ll need in the health care field and has intentionally designed the curriculum around that. Students are supported throughout their academic journey and enter their field with the experience needed to excel. Whatever health information management role you are considering, we encourage you to reach out. At Davenport, we can help you explore your options, determine if you have current credits that may transfer, and what financial aid may be available. It’s a growing, important field, a field where you can truly make a difference.”
