Pierpont Community and Technical College forms articulation agreements with WVU Parkersburg

The articulation agreements are seamless transfer agreements for students pursuing bachelor degrees in Child Development or Supervisory Management.

Pierpont Community and Technical College has formed two 2+2 articulation agreements that will provide seamless transfer pathways to WVU Parkersburg. The agreements will help students who wish to pursue bachelor degrees in Child Development or Supervisory Management continue their education with two years at WVU Parkersburg following two years of study at Pierpont Community and Technical College.

According to an article on Pierpont Community and Technical College’s website, Dr. Michael Waide, the college’s Interim President, was quoted as saying of the agreements, “These agreements reflect a simple idea. Colleges serve students and communities best when we work together. Partnerships like this reduce friction for learners, create clear paths from one credential to the next and help more people stay on track and complete. By aligning programs and transferring credit efficiently, we give students a straight path into high-demand fields.”

The agreement has laid out two pathways for students to transfer from Pierpont Community and Technical College into WVU Parkersburg. The first is for students who complete an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education at Pierpont to work toward a Bachelor of Applied Science in Child Development at WVU Parkersburg. The bachelor degree program is designed to be a career ladder that will teach students how to design and implement developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for children. It is an online program that will allow students to complete a degree on their own schedule.

The other pathway is for students who have completed an Associate of Applied Science degree at Pierpont to transfer to WVU Parkersburg to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervisory Management. Also a completely online program, the Supervisory Management degree program will prepare students to work in a managerial capacity, learning skills like accounting and marketing, among others.

Dr. Torie Jackson, who serves as the president of WVU Parkersburg, said, “Collaboration is one of the words that you heard today, and it is very important that we begin to collaborate across the state as we take opportunities to advance student education. As the only community college in the state to have a unique opportunity to offer baccalaureate degrees, we believe it is part of our mission to partner with institutions like Pierpont to ensure clear pathways for students. We are excited about this partnership and the opportunities it creates for students to succeed.”
