The student awards have been established via a $50,000 gift from Dr. Jay Moskowitz and Mrs. Joanne Moskowitz and are the first-ever student awards within the university’s Department of Physician Assistant Science.

The University of Evansville has received a $50,000 gift from Dr. Jay Moskowitz and Mrs. Joanne Moskowitz to establish the Moskowitz Family Physician Assistant Award for Innovation in Healthcare and the Moskowitz Family Physician Assistant Leadership Award. These two awards are the first-ever student awards established within the university’s Department of Physician Assistant Science.

According to an article on the University of Evansville’s website, Jay is quoted as saying, "Good health made possible, that's our credo. These awards are about more than recognition. They're about fueling the energy and excellence of students who will shape the future of care."

Joanne added, "Every student deserves someone in their corner. For us, that means creating opportunities for growth, for learning, and for giving back in whatever ways we can."

The Moskowitz Family Physician Assistant Award for Innovation in Healthcare and the Moskowitz Family Physician Assistant Leadership Award are supported by a permanent endowment that will allow for students to be recognized for years to come. Students within the Department of Physician Assistant Science who strive for excellence in the field, are committed to serving, and seek to improve healthcare will receive the recognitions, along with financial awards that will allow for their participation in a health sciences conference.

The Moskowitz family has been influential in both healthcare and in education, with Joanne serving as an elementary school teacher for 30 years and with Jay having worked at the National Institutes of Health, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and at Pennsylvania State University.
