The five person varsity Overwatch team at Trine University has been placed in the Titan Division of the ECAC esports league, the highest of seven divisions.
The varsity Overwatch esports team at Trine University recently was placed in the highest of seven divisions for competition by the ECAC national collegiate esports league.
The university’s team will be one of 14 different teams in the ECAC Titans Division. There are more than 187 members in the ECAC league.
Trine University’s Overwatch team will compete against other schools such as Washington State University, the University of Virginia, Louisiana Tech, the University of Kentucky.
Jeremy Goossens, who serves as the director of esports at Trine University, was quoted in an article posted on the school’s website about the prestigious nature of the team’s placement in the Titans Division as saying, “Most ECAC divisions include 32 teams, but the Titans Division is highly exclusive, featuring only the elite programs in collegiate ECAC Overwatch. This marks the first time Trine has reached this level, and it’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students.”
Trine University’s varsity Overwatch team is made up of five members: Computer science and information technology junior from LaGrange, Indiana, Hudson Kelly; extended reality junior from Angola, Indiana, Brockstan Tschannen; computer engineering junior from Indianapolis, Logan Gault; computer science and information technology junior from Valparaiso, Indiana, Jonah Kyle, and computer science and information technology sophomore from Indianapolis, Elton Langley.
Goossens spoke highly of his team, saying, “The dedication of these five individuals has played a significant role in the growth of our Overwatch program, making it our most popular title, with five teams and 17 freshmen involved. One of our new Overwatch teams, comprised of four freshmen and one sophomore, has already earned a spot in Division A, marking the second-highest placement ever achieved by a Trine team, just behind our Titans.”
The Trine University varsity Overwatch team has previously won the ECAC national title in Division D in the fall of 2024 and in Division B in 2025.
