The new program is the college’s latest effort to prepare students for in-demand careers. The nine-week program will serve as a pathway into the industrial workforce.
Pierpont Community and Technical College has started a new workforce training program that will prepare students to work within the industrial workforce. The Industrial Manufacturing Technician training program will provide students with fundamental modern manufacturing knowledge and will also provide workforce safety certifications to prepare them for the workplace.
According to an article on Pierpont Community and Technical College’s website, David Beighley, who serves as the college’s Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, was quoted as saying of the new program, “Pierpont Community and Technical College is committed to providing students with the skills they need to enter the workforce. The Industrial Manufacturing Technician Program reflects the strong work our Career and Corporate Training team has done to align education with industry needs. It’s built to deliver the skills employers are looking for in today’s manufacturing industry.”
The program is a 9-week hybrid program that combines online learning with weekly in-person sessions and hands-on experiences that will take place at the college’s Advanced Technology Center. At the end of the program, students will participate in a capstone simulation experience to finish off their learning. The cost of the program is $2,000 and students can use financial aid or payment plans.
Blake Lillard, an Assistant Professor and program coordinator of Applied Process Technology, said, “The IMT training program prepares students in the skills required to succeed in the manufacturing and mechanical industries. The program focuses on technical skills through hands-on learning in Electrical Controls, PLCs, Fluid Power, and Mechanical Systems. These four pillars are the basis for multicraft technicians in the advancing field of manufacturing.”
Students will learn about essential modern manufacturing topics like mechanical systems, electrical components, programmable logic controllers, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechatronics, and precision measurement tools. Additionally, students will be able to earn credentials from Festo and Snap-On, as well as certifications in CPR and First Aid to ensure safety in the workplace.
Caleb Davis, who serves as a Career and Corporate Training Specialist at Pierpont Community and Technical College, said, “We’ve built this program to meet people where they are, whether they’re brand new to manufacturing or looking to grow in the field. It’s hands-on, fast-paced, and packed with certifications that employers recognize. If you like working with your hands and your brain, this is a great place to start.”
The program is currently enrolling for its first two scheduled cohorts, which will run from October 6 to December 12, 2025 and from March 16 to May 15, 2026.
