Pellissippi State Community College launching two healthcare programs for Fall 2025

The two new programs, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology, will be available at the Blount County campus and will receive support from Prisma Health - Blount Memorial Hospital.

Pellissippi State Community College is introducing two new healthcare programs at its Blount County campus for the upcoming Fall 2025 semester. The Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology programs will each receive support from Prisma Health - Blount Memorial Hospital.

According to an article on Pellissippi State Community College’s website, Pellissippi State’s Health Sciences Dean Jessica Belnap was quoted as saying of the new additions to the college’s program offerings, “Both of our programs offer fast-paced, hands-on roles for students in fields with strong job demand. Students will receive specialized training in addition to their studies in basic sciences, mathematics and general education.”

Both programs will award students with an associate of applied science degree upon completion, and students who study in the Radiologic Technology program can take the certification exam offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to become a Registered Technologist in Radiography.

The Radiologic Technology program is a five-semester program that students will complete after their general education courses. Students will study patient care, technology, and healthcare concepts. Upon becoming a Registered Technologist in Radiography, individuals may find careers within hospitals, diagnostic imaging centers, ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care clinics, physician offices, or mobile diagnostic imaging services.

The Surgical Technology program is a two-semester program that students enter after completing their general education courses. The program offers hands-on experience opportunities in surgical settings, and students will learn sterile instrument techniques and how to assist during surgery.

Both programs are currently pending approvals from their respective councils and organizations.
