Trine University partners with Freedom Academy to create nursing pathway

Individuals who complete a Nurse Aide certification with Freedom Academy will receive access to an expedited admissions process with Trine University to participate in the Associate of Science in Nursing program.

Trine University has formed a partnership with Freedom Academy that will help more individuals pursue nursing degrees. The partnership has created a pathway to expedited admissions for the Associate of Science in Nursing program for students who completed a Nurse Aide certification with Freedom Academy.

According to an article on Trine University’s website, Kim Bennett, who serves as the vice president for enrollment management at the university, was quoted as saying of the new partnership, “We are thrilled to partner with Freedom Academy to provide more opportunities for aspiring nurses in Northeast Indiana. By creating this structured pathway, we are helping adult learners take the next step in their nursing careers while also addressing the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in our region.”

Freedom Academy is a nonprofit organization that provides adults with career training in the areas of advanced manufacturing and healthcare. Its services are available in Allen, Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, and Whitley counties.

Melissa Carpenter, the director of Freedom Academy, said, “We are excited to provide opportunities in nursing to our students wishing to further their training and education. With this partnership, we will provide a pathway for students to pursue their passion and goals.”

In order to take part in the nursing pathway, students must complete a Nurse Aide certification with Freedom Academy. This will provide them with expedited admissions into Trine University’s pre-nursing pathway. From there, students can apply for one of 20 seats in the Associate of Science in Nursing program, provided that the student has finished College Composition, completed a math elective and Fundamentals of Human Anatomy & Physiology I, and has scored a Proficient or higher on the ATI TEAS test.

After earning an Associate of Science in Nursing, students can then choose to continue their nursing education at Trine University and work toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and then a Master of Science in Nursing.

The partnership between Trine University and Freedom Academy will help ensure a steady stream of well qualified nurses are filling open positions at healthcare facilities in the region.
