The university’s previous IT Workforce Accelerator has been expanded and renamed to the Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator.
Youngstown State University’s IT Workforce Accelerator is now known as the Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator, representing the university’s commitment to helping students become prepared to succeed in the ever-changing workforce. The new Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator will train students in cybersecurity and automation, along with other forward-looking technologies.
According to an article on Youngstown State University’s website, Lindsey Ekstrand, who serves as the Director of Workforce Education Programs, was quoted as saying, “The Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator is more than a training center—it’s a workforce transformation initiative designed to ensure Ohio remains at the forefront of digital infrastructure and Industry 4.0. Through innovation and collaboration and by embracing the integration of IT, OT, and advanced wireless technologies, we are preparing workers for high-demand careers that drive economic growth and technological advancement.”
Other workforce training centers focus on individual industries, like manufacturing or IT, but the Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator works to bring these industries together and train students to work in the space created by the integration of these industries. The integrated training provided by the Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator includes industrial cybersecurity, cloud computing for manufacturing, and automation.
The Advanced Technology Workforce Accelerator will provide students with certifications, bootcamps, and workshops that will directly reflect the needs of local employers in relevant industries, as determined by the university via its collaborations and partnerships with local employers. Partnerships the university will maintain in this regard includes ones with the Wireless Infrastructure Association, the National Center for Urban Solutions, Tri-County Tower, and the Fiber Broadband Association.
