The partnership includes the donation of two aircraft to the school as well as an internship program to help students receive hands-on industry experience.
Sinclair Community College’s Aviation Technology department has formed a partnership with Aero Velocity, an aviation company specializing in Unmanned Aerial Systems. The partnership will benefit the college via the company providing the school with two new aircraft, as well as welcoming students into its internship program to give students an immersive industry experience.
According to an article on Sinclair Community College’s website, Benjamin Sears, the chair of the Aviation Technology department, shared his thoughts about the partnership. He is quoted as saying, “This collaboration with Aero Velocity is yet another step forward for our students and faculty. The internship opportunities provide real-world experience that is invaluable in today's competitive job market. Additionally, the aircraft donation enriches our program by allowing students to engage with the very equipment they'll encounter in their careers. We're incredibly grateful for Aero Velocity's commitment to fostering the next generation of aviation professionals."
The two aircraft that Aero Velocity has provided to the Aviation Technology department will give students in the program the ability to practice their hands-on skills on current technology aircraft, which will give them a leg up in the workforce. The Aviation Technology program offers courses on aviation maintenance and in unmanned aerial systems.
Speaking of the internship program Aero Velocity offers, a representative from the company said, "At Aero Velocity, we’re committed to equipping the next generation of UAS professionals with the tools and experience they need to succeed. Partnering with Sinclair College allows us to bridge the gap between education and industry, while preparing students to lead the future of the UAS industry and drone technology.”
The internship program will help students put their classroom-learned skills into practice in the real world, at a company that leads the pack in unmanned aerial systems. The collaboration between the company and the school is expected to have a positive impact on the region’s workforce by ensuring properly trained aviation technology employees will be moving into the industry.
