Edison State Community College receives Campus Safety Grant from Ohio Department of Higher Education

The college has received $130,000 to make upgrades and improvements to its safety and security measures on campus.

Edison State Community College has received a Campus Safety Grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education. The ODHE awarded $7.5 million to 28 colleges and universities in Ohio. Edison State Community College’s portion of the award amounts to $130,000.

According to an article on Edison State Community College’s website, Lee Harmon, who serves as the Edison State Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety, was quoted as saying of the award, “With the award of the Campus Safety Grant, we will make further enhancements college wide to continue to ensure our students and staff have a safe learning and working environment. We’re very pleased and grateful that the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Department of Public Safety’s Ohio School Safety Center have provided us with the opportunity to do so.”

This is the second time Edison State Community College has received a Campus Safety Grant from the ODHE and the Department of Public Safety’s Ohio School Safety Center. The last time it received the grant was in November 2022. When the school applied for the grant, it had to perform an audit to determine any vulnerabilities in its current safety measures. The funding Edison State received will be used to enhance its physical security efforts.

Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey said, “I commend Edison State for making campus—and student—safety a priority. This latest grant will help ensure that this well-run campus becomes even safer.”
