The new concentrations will provide education students with streamlined pathways to their careers.
Southern State Community College has introduced new concentrations to its Teacher Education programs, which will provide students with different pathways that will help them more quickly and affordably begin their teaching careers. These concentrations will lead students toward a foundation that will help them prepare to transfer to a four-year school to become a licensed teacher.
According to a press release on Southern State Community College’s website, Dr. Erika Goodwin, who serves as the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, was quoted as saying, "We are thrilled to promote the Licensure Pathway in Education, which will help provide a faster route for students pursuing an education degree in the growing demand for qualified educators in our community. This program not only aligns with our mission to provide accessible, affordable, high-quality education but also addresses the need to assist students aspiring to be educators in our school system.”
The new concentrations include Career Technical Education, Intervention Specialist, primary education, middle childhood education, and adolescent and young adult education. In order for a student to qualify to participate in these concentrations, they must meet requirements for an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree and the Ohio Transfer 36 module.
Students will follow their Licensure Pathway in Education, including their chosen concentration, toward a four-year college or university to complete their college education and teacher licensure program, more quickly and more affordably.
