The partnership established a Memorandum of Understanding that will give Charleston Area Alliance employees, members, and their spouses tuition reduction to the university, and will see the CAA promoting the university as a university partner to its members.
The University of Charleston and the Charleston Area Alliance have formed a partnership via a Memorandum of Understanding that provides benefits for both the university and the CAA. The collaboration seeks to enhance workforce development for the Charleston area, promote economic vitality, and provide meaningful education opportunities.
According to an article on the University of Charleston’s website, Marty Roth, who is the president of the University of Charleston, was quoted as saying of the partnership, “The University of Charleston is proud to collaborate with the Charleston Area Alliance to support local businesses and their employees through accessible and affordable education. This partnership aligns with our mission to prepare students for success in their careers while driving economic and workforce development in our community.”
The Memorandum of Understanding lays out the benefits for each partner. The University of Charleston will provide the Charleston Area Alliance’s employees, spouses of the employees, and member businesses with a 10% tuition reduction should they choose to apply to and enroll at the University of Charleston to earn an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Business, Leadership, or Nursing. In turn, the Charleston Area Alliance will actively promote the University of Charleston to its members, touting it as a university partner.
Mara Boggs, who serves as the president and CEO of the Charleston Area Alliance, said, “This agreement reflects our commitment to supporting the professional development and growth of our business community. By partnering with the University of Charleston, we are ensuring that employees of our member businesses have access to high-quality education at a more affordable cost, helping to strengthen our region’s workforce and economy.”
The partnership will also serve the Charleston area as a whole, as it will foster economic growth, educational advancement, and workforce development throughout the community.
